Alì Terme rises along the Ionian coast at the foot of a mountainous buttress on the southeast side of the Peloritani mountains which stretches out over the sea and takes the name of Capo Alì.
The town of Alì Terme boasts an ancient origin. In this regard, several historical theses have been formulated. Some scholars claim that Ali was born in Elis, a citadel of Greece.
Here the remains of that distant era were found: a mosaic floor, ancient bricks, remains of human bones, underground galleries, coins, terracotta lamps and more. The presence of the ancient colonists is also demonstrated by the discovery on the two promontories Agresti and Impromile of remains of fortresses which were built to defend the nearby colony. These inhabitants, however, were constantly harassed by Saracen corsairs, with invasions and looting. So, after many years, to free themselves from these harassment, they retired over Mount Saturnio or Netturnio.
